She-Shack FAQ's

  • How to get to Long Island?
  • There are two airports on the island. Stella Maris (SML) to the north and Deadman's Cay (LGI) to the south. There is one commercial carrier with scheduled flights into Long Island daily. Bahamasair (242-702-4140) flies into Deadman's Cay. By sea: Bahamas Ferries (242-323-2166) sails into Simms dock weekly. Flying in private you can clear customs at Stella Maris (SML, MYLS). PILOTS: Flying in yourself? Find everything you need to know about flying your aircraft to The Bahamas. And if you're swimming in on your plastic pelican pool floaty, just keep kicking til you see a "long" strip of land. We'll have a Kalik waiting for you. - Charter contact information here - - -> NOTE: Makers Air will be running scheduled flights between Fort Lauderdale and Stella Maris starting December 2023.
  • Where on Long Island is the She Shack located?
  • We are conveniently located in Thompson Bay. Nearly the middle (north/south) of the island, relatively close to most Long Island amenities, and making any excursion in either direction quite unarduous. map
  • What should I bring?
  • Uh? Dunno man, it's your holiday... Most people find that they don't even bother with 90% of what they packed. Remember, this is a "very tiny" space. However, the basics, like your favorite bikinis, mosquito repellent, reef safe sunscreen, your favorite shampoo, toiletries, etc., plus whatever accoutrements or equipment you will need to engage in the activities you wish, eg; mask & snorkel, floppy hat. Seriously, if you are lugging around a suitcase, you packed way too heavy... For a week or two here: Good rule of thumb is pack for a quicky weekend at the beach and then toss out half of it.   I have to quote a fantastic guest here who just nailed it; she said... "Really everything I needed to stay at this amazing place I could have stuffed in my purse." Thanks Amber!
  • Is there air conditioning?
  • Yes. However, we really embrace the open air living experience here. There is almost always a perfect sea breeze, so we simply open the windows and use the natural Bahamian breeze to condition the air. Besides, why travel all the way to The Bahamas just to sit inside with the doors and windows closed? You can do that in Cleveland.
  • Is there Internet/WiFi available?
  • Yes. In the unlikely event that the overwhelming awesomeness of this place somehow invokes periodic digital withdrawal symptoms, internet access is standing by. And of course there is cell reception all over the island.
  • Is there hot water?
  • Yes. Water is heated by the sun. On extremely rare occasions like cooler, cloudy days in the winter months the water may only get luke warm making the shower a quite "exhilarating" experience. On sunny days the water could be scalding hot. It cools off overnight so mornings are typically cooler. The water is rarely "cold". The outdoor shower is not heated and is a fantastic besmirchment removal apparatus.
  • Is the water safe to drink?
  • Our main water supply is treated, clean and safe to use for everything, and we have bottled water as well.
  • Is there a restaurant and grocery market nearby?
  • Yes. We are centrally located on the island and just minutes to the food store, liquor store, petrol, and several "al fresco" eateries and takeaway's. List of restaurants and food stores here.
  • Are linens and towels provided?
  • Yes, all of the customary sleeping and cleansing facility accoutrements are present. If you desire anything more, please ask and we will do our best to accomodate you.
  • Is the shack cleaned daily?
  • No, it is cleaned before your arrival and after your departure.
  • When is Check in and Check out?
  • Check-in: after 3pm Check-out: by 11am
  • Can I pay with cash?
  • Absolutely, however deposits may require other payment methods. Contact us for details.
  • What about the mosquitoes and sandflies?
  • Although the weather absolutely dictates the critter conditions, mozzies are typically not an issue here on our side of the island. In fact, with the right conditions (most of the year) you might never see a single mosquito here. As for sandflies (No-See-Ums), there is almost always a perfect breeze here to subvert their sinister mobilization tactics. There may only be a handfull of days out of the entire year when sandflies are as active as they are on the other side of the island. So, if the wind falls off altogether you may experience sandflies similar to the west side. Even when mosquitoes and sandflies are active, they are easily managed by exercising a minimal amount of prudency.
  • Do you allow pets.?
  • No. The property is for one person only. Sorry, no kids, no pets.
  • Is the accomodation private? Can I be topless or nude?
  • Yes, it's very private and secluded. This is a clothing optional estate so you are free to wear or "unwear" anything you like anywhere on the property.
  • Do I need to rent a car?
  • Long Island is sort of a "long" island, so some manner of mechanized transport facilitation does come in handy. In fact, a four wheel drive equipped vehicle is highly recommended if able to procure one. The access road to the property can be a little rough, especially following a storm or heavy rain. If you fancy, we may be able to arrange a car for you at a significant discount, or you can find car rental contact information here.
  • Are you available if I have an issue or problem with 'the shack' or property?
  • Yes. We are just a phone call away, otherwise we will never disturb your privacy.
  • Can I pay with Paypal?
  • We no longer accept payments through Paypal.
Paypal is an iniquitous and criminal enterprise running malicious pilfering scams with impunity on their own unsuspecting users who naively trust them. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but we can no longer abide or support this activity in any way. This is not only for our own benefit and safety but for yours as well. Paypal has stolen millions from their users. We will not contribute to these people stealing from anyone else. Scammers are not the problem, PAYPAL is the problem. Please contact us for alternative payment methods
    * USE PAYPAL or VENMO AT YOUR OWN RISK AND DETRIMENT *
